A New Daily Substack Format
A way to make myself feel productive and teach you about philosophy and whatever else I'm reading about
Hi. It’s been a while, but I am actually still alive and didn’t drown in the bathtub.1 Also, ‘what? footnotes?’ you cry! Yes, footnotes, because they allow me to strike a variety of tones with the reader.2 Often what I write won’t simply be the facts that I give you, but also the way I feel about the facts and information I learn. It also helps me retain the Chicago Style ruleset so I can easily use them when writing papers in Graduate school. But, at the same time, I don’t want to exhaust myself by following the minutia of the Style, so I’ll be liable to break them at times for the sake of convenience.
I also want to be humble to the fact that much of what I will be reading will be difficult. As such, I want to take care to genuinely express my lack of understanding or confusion on certain topics that perhaps you know the answer to and can comment upon. If I chance upon a topic that you are familiar about, why not let me know and I can include it in the next day’s Substack and continue the conversation thread. The goal here is total epistemic humility. This is all totally free—just like, join in. Say whatever and talk and I’ll sum all that talk up in the next Substack.
Alright, the first edition of ‘Inquiries’ is being posted soon.
Or maybe you know that I’m alive since you follow my Twitter (https://twitter.com/bath_boi).
See look, I’ve now started a separate conversation with you down here. I can change the tone and make a long-winded ramble that seems out of place in the overall chapter but that cannot be placed in any other spot. It’s basically cheating.
